Where do I even start with this adorable, giggly couple?! Their story is one far and between that started way back in middle school for Janelle. Gil and his family were re-stationed to the small town around Fort Drum when Gil was in high school. So when Gil’s family moved just down the road from Janelle’s family, Janelle’s crush began on the new kid in town – a kid that was goofy, amiable, and athletic. But their love story didn’t actually begin until several years later after Gil left for college and began his Army career, while Janelle also went and graduated from college. They then re-connected in their small town one evening while Janelle was out celebrating family birthdays. They instantly hit it off and began dating, which got serious when Gil headed off on his first deployment. Janelle says she remembers the moment when she knew he was the one for her…it was New Year’s Eve and they were out listening to a band for the evening. Gil got up and began to dance as if he was on “dancing with the stars”, not a care in the world. He twirled Janelle around the floor and she apologized to others around her as she ran into them due to Gil’s exuberant dance moves! It was this mutual love for dancing and his ability to make every moment together so much fun that knit her heart to his. I love it!
When Gil was ready to pop the question he had a custom ring designed and planned a trip to the mountains for a weekend get-a-away to ski and pamper his gal. He sent her off to get a manicure and pedicure the day of, then after much convincing got her to agree to go ice-skating on a romantic (but below freezing) outdoor rink. Hilariously, she was slightly under-enthused to be out there because of the freezing temperatures, but soon it became well-worth it when he brought her to the middle of the rink and got down on one knee (on skates, might I remind you…that’s skill). She was so overcome with emotion she can’t quite remember what he said, but was ecstatic to say yes!
So it goes without saying how much fun we had with them. We decided to walk through downtown Columbus photographing along the way – and when we came across a Ukulele player in an ally you better believe they jumped at the opportunity to dance! So.much.fun. We also ended with a visit to Bruster’s Ice Cream shop because of their love for ice cream…Randall and I definitely were excited to end an engagement session with ice cream haha. And how about those awesome t-shirts?! How fun.
Congratulations on your engagement Janelle and Gil, you guys definitely fill this world with more laughter and good cheer!
