the beginning: Auburn University
Robert and Charlotte have quite the unique story behind their meeting! Charlotte and Laura were college roommates and best friends when Laura set Charlotte up with her brother, Robert, to attend the Marine Corps ball with him. After a night of butterflies and good times, they knew the relationship was something worth pursuing. Both Charlotte and Robert are methodical and steady people and so was this new love which continued to grow over time – as Robert once described it, a “slow-cooker” kind of love! Coming from large families who share the same faith in Jesus, it is just natural that these two simply fit right into each other’s lives and now extended families! Although they are not dramatic in their expressions of love, you can see it expressed intimately through their eyes and smiles towards one another. There was this peaceful joy that covered their entire wedding day, from getting-ready to the grand entrance at the reception as husband and wife, which was so lovely and refreshing – I got the sense that these two were just soaking up internally every second of their most precious day!
the ceremony: First Baptist Church of Opelika
Robert and Charlotte got married at First Baptist Church of Opelika in Opelika, Alabama. Their wedding was so stately with the ladies in floor-length gowns and the guys in tuxes with tails or Marine Corps dress. The flowers were just phenomenal with the coral and pink hues – not to mention the gorgeous bridal boutique and the adorable flower girl crowns! Although First Baptist Church of Opelika’s sanctuary is very grand, it felt very intimate during Robert and Charlotte’s ceremony. They had a faith-based ceremony that really focused on God’s love for us and how that propels us to love one another, especially as husband and wife. Charlotte’s younger twin sisters read a few passages about love out of the Bible, then a few hymns were sang in worship to the Lord, and after exchanging rings they partook in their first communion as husband and wife. We then celebrated their union with photos in the front lawn of the beautiful white church buildings.
the reception: Grand National Marriott
We headed to the Grand National Marriott in Auburn, Alabama, to celebrate Robert and Charlotte’s union in the grand ballroom…and man was it grand! Every table outfitted with a luscious flower centerpiece, book of customized matches, and a printed menu inside their folded napkin. Before arriving into the ballroom, the guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour with delectable hor dourves and drinks while a string quartet played classical music. The evening could not have been more picturesque! Robert and Charlotte had friends and family join them from not only all over the United States, but the world – talk about a testimony to their friendship and love! DJ Mike did an awesome job with creating an atmosphere of celebration – the dance floor was filled with dancing and laughter all night long! They even broke out some glow sticks which added a fun flair to the party! One of my favorite things about the reception was Mrs. Barbara (with Barbara Davis Art) painting in the back corner. She overlooked the entire ballroom and painted a portrait of the night as Charlotte and Robert will always remember. Guests enjoyed (as did I) stopping by to see her progress throughout the evening! The Grand National Marriott could not have been a better place for this new married couple and their guests to celebrate into the night!
