the beginning: Athens, Georgia
Alissa and James are simply adorable. When they first met in 2008 through mutual friends at UGA they were both attracted to one another, but had no idea what the other was thinking – James was instantly captivated, but didn’t think it would go anywhere, all the while Alissa was really enjoying his sense of humor and personality. From there, Alissa pursued James to show her interest and as time went on they both knew it was a lasting love they were investing in. With their shared love for UGA and many shared memories there, James knew that Athens, GA would play a huge role in his proposal – and it sure did. He took Alissa out ring shopping, or so she thought! When they got to the ring shop, the ring she was interested in was no longer there, so they left to cheer up over some delicious dinner. As they walked by the Georgia Theatre, James pointed out that the marquee had an interesting brand name. Alissa looked up and read “Alissa will you marry me” then turning back to James in amazement, he was down on one knee. The ring was now on her finger!
the ceremony: Levi Chapel
This ceremony was truly unique with the memories that are tied to it. James’ close family friends own this restored chapel that sits on their property in north Columbus. All of his siblings were also married in it, and so it was special to have James and Alissa be the last from his family to tie the knot there! It’s absolutely dreamy and provided such a romantic and intimate setting for their union. Kim with Bloomwoods Flowers and Events did a fantastic job with the elegant floral touches that marked the isle and the stunning floral wrap around the banister at the alter. Their ceremony included special touches like a folk duet, hand-written vows that included their promises not only to each other as a spouse, but as parents to their children one day, and it finished out with a ringing from the chapel’s bell tower! After some epic photos with rolling hills behind this gorgeous couple, we headed back to the city of Columbus to Rivermill Event Centre for the reception, where many more guests joined them.
the reception: Rivermill Event Centre
This Rivermill Event Centre wedding was so beautiful; twinkle lights throughout, a canopy draped over the dance floor, white floral centerpieces that topped every table, and a live band all drew people in for a romantic evening! We thoroughly enjoyed pictures in the ivy and exposed brick ruin garden – where earlier in the day Alissa and James enjoyed sharing a first look…this gave them 20 minutes to spend alone before their day got started, which proved to be emotional and magical. I mean, they have waited for 7 years for this day to arrive! During the reception, they enjoyed a sit-down dinner prepared by Columbus’ Executive Chef Keating, followed by fabulous cakes, and a truly unique “snack” half way through the evening…personal pizzas! They were not only adorable; they were delicious! As the night came to an end, Alissa and James were sent off by the band with one last song as all their friends and family surrounding them with love and great emotion. Then after they walked under sparklers, they got into their “get-away” truck that, unfortunately, had a terrible time starting haha so their friends and family gave them a push and a shove! What a way to end such an incredible day!
Thank you to all of the incredible vendors!
